Today we are gathered to commemorate the 17^th anniversary of Volunteer Martin Doherty of the Dublin Brigade of the I.R.A. On that fateful night in Dublin, Martin stood outside the Widow Scallon's pub where a function was taking place inside to raise money for the political prisoners and their families. As two men approached the pub carrying a holdall, Martin challenged them and was immediately gunned down, another doorman, Paddy Burke, was shot in the throat through the closed door which had been closed by Martin to safeguard the people inside by preventing the loyalist murder gang from entering. They hurriedly abandoned their bomb which failed to go off, only the detonator exploding, this was nothing new, the UVF could never master the art of bomb making like the IRA could. They made their getaway in a car driven by a 3^rd man.

The UVF issued a statement claiming responsibility for the shooting and the failed bomb attack saying they had struck at the very heart of the Republican Movement in it's own backyard and warned the IRA and the Dublin Government that the Ulster people will neither be coerced nor persuaded and will remain masters of their own destiny.

Fred Cobain of the then Ulster Unionist Party commented that it was only a matter of time before Loyalists went South as Dublin had an increasing say in the affairs of the North and the way to reverse that trend is to indulge in the same tactics as the IRA and attack targets in the South, he reckoned that this may be a sign of things to come.

Martin Doherty, affectionately known to his friends as Doco, joined the IRA in 1981 after 10 men had died on hunger-strike in the H-blocks. In 1982 he was arrested and charged with armed robbery, sentenced in the Special Criminal Court to 7 years and duly transported to Portlaoise Prison.

Martin was a very popular volunteer and was well respected by all who knew him and on completion of his sentence in 1988, Martin immediately reported back to the Dublin Brigade of the IRA only this time his service was to find him in England taking the war to the enemy's door. He came back home only to return again and the second time there; he was arrested and charged with conspiracy to cause explosions. On January 1991, he was released due to lack of evidence and as we all know he once again rejoined his comrades in the ranks of the IRA.

On that night in 1994 in Dublin, the IRA lost one of its most dedicated volunteers. Martin was murdered because he was a Republican activist and showed us that a greater love no man has than to lay down his life for his friends. Many of those friends recall exactly where they were sitting that night and how the sequence of events unraveled and how they owed their lives to a very brave selfless Irish soldier, I owe my life to Doco as does my son and daughter. Thank you Doco for your unrivalled bravery.

When Martin's body was brought from the hospital to his family home in Finglas, an IRA guard of honor stood over his coffin until his removal from the house. A 10 man color saluted the coffin outside his family home and the mourners proceeded to the church in Finglas where Martin's body was left in the chapel of repose until his funeral the next day.

John Bruton, the then leader of the Fine Gael opposition in Leinster House used the paramilitary display at Martin's funeral to criticize the government; he never touched on the subject of the circumstances of Martin's untimely death, UVF ok a paramilitary display, no.

The now deputy 1^st minister in the British controlled Stormont government was allegedly at that time a Republican and gave the oration at Doco's funeral and referred to the opposition parties in Leinster House as Quislings and West Brits, now I ask you all, to whom do those words apply today?

If we stop for one minute and compare the difference in surveillance tactics by the Special Branch on Republican activists and supporters and look back to that terrible night in Dublin when the UVF had a free hand to commit murder and drive away, one can only draw their own conclusions, at least 7 car loads of branch were outside that night taking names etc., of everyone entering but instead of remaining as they usually did to harass republicans on their way home, they were conspicuous by their absence, did they know in advance, is, as they stated at the inquest in 7 years ago, the case still open, where is the footage from the cctv cameras from the traffic lights, where indeed. That UVF squad in many people’s opinion came to Ireland's capital that Saturday night happy in the knowledge that they would be given a free hand and they were. Compare that to the treatment of protesters opposed to the British Queen's visit to this country while part of it is still occupied by her troops of which she is the Commander-in-Chief, worse still, while she still claims sovereignty over those 6 counties. The protesters of last week were harassed, had false charges brought against them in court and others subjected to Garda brutality just because they wanted to demonstrate their opposition to this visit. Protesters were illegally hemmed in on Patrick Street for nearly 4 hours, the Gardai are no respecters’ of the law the Gardai want young people to respect them yet they respect no-one.

Finally, I want to remind people that the last British Royal visit in 1911 was followed 5 years later by the birth of a Terrible Beauty, let not your hearts be sad at the craven and affected puppets in Leinster House who bowed and scraped to their British monarch, rather think of them with pride, the young and not so young people who displayed their abhorrence at this visit for those young people are our insurance for tomorrow. As we leave here today we do so imbued with that quiet determination demonstrated by Doco and we solemnly vow to continue the struggle against British rule in our country and to one claim our prize, a 32 county Republic,

It is a sad day for us to be here today and not see our Marion in our midst, you are also an inspiration to us and we will dedicate ourselves to supporting you in your struggle for truth and justice.

Freedom of Speech denied To Insulate British Monarch

In its desperation to portray to the outside world the image of a welcomed British Monarch in Ireland the Dublin Government has demonstrated a massive disregard for freedom of speech and movement of its own citizens. Having spent millions ensuring that streets were deserted to insulate the monarch from legitimate protest they have now adopted the tactic of pre-emptive arrests to ensure that protests do not happen at all.

This evening close on twenty members of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement were arrested under Section 21 of the Public Order Act as they assembled in Dublin to protest at the monarch’s presence. For all the grandiose talk of new relations and looking to the future the thin veneer has been scraped away to expose the political bankruptcy underneath.

The politics of this visit are clear; in the eyes of those organizing it partition is now fully legitimized. The laying of a wreath at the Garden of Remembrance reflected the view of those present that the Proclamation and Declaration of Independence were wrong and that the Anglo Irish Treaty of 1922, and subsequent derivatives, represents the lawful parameters of Irish sovereignty. We reject this utterly and will continue, despite dictatorial political policing, to expose it.

The visit of Elizabeth Windsor, commander in Chief of the British armed forces marks a low point for the Free State government. In the past number of months an unprecedented security operation has been put in place for her visit, and that of the war criminal president, Barack Obama. These combined celebrations of Imperialism are costing an estimated 30 MILLION euros. This is at a time when the Irish people are being forced to emigrate and beg to survive. Elizabeth Windsor is not welcome in this country. Her army occupies the six counties and is responsible for atrocities in Ireland, Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere.

The Free State government argues that this is just a normal visit. Why then are ten thousand gardai required to lock down Dublin for her protection? Why then are water cannons being readied to be used against working class protestors? Why then are no posters, or protests to be allowed? The answer is that this state intends to suppress all dissent. Their censorship of republicans is nothing new but they will not accept the voice of the people being heard. They are the lackeys of the IMF and the British and American governments. We are the people who are paying for their mistakes and their failures. It is time that they are shown the resistance of the people. The 32csm urges all people that are angry at this visit to get out onto the streets of Dublin, Cork and anywhere that they display this archaic symbol of privilege. It is time to stand up and fight back!

Prisoners Resume Protest

Republican prisoners in Maghaberry resume protest action.

Over one year has passed since republican prisoners commenced a

protest to end strip searching and controlled movement in

Maghaberry. The protest ended on the 12th August 2010 after a

facilitated agreement was reached between prisoners and gaol

admin/NIO which was supposed to have ended strip searching and

“phased out” controlled movement within the landings of republican

prisoners. As with previous agreements between republican

prisoners and the British, the British immediately began to claw

back on their position and in the case of this agreement even

introduced new and more degrading measures. As a group of non-

conforming republican prisoners, we fought against these measures

and have worked tirelessly to have the 12th August agreement

implemented. To achieve change we have to resist. To challenge

such a regime comes at a cost.

Since the signing of the August agreement over 60 forced strip

searches has taken place and the phased ending of controlled

movement hasn’t materialised. By this stage, May 2011, we should

have unfettered access to our two landings with cell doors

remaining open all day. Instead, ten screws have to be in place

before movement begins, with a maximum of six out on landings at

any one time. A “forum” involving prisoner representatives and

gaol admin was put in place as part of the agreement to sort areas

of contention, meeting on a monthly basis, but as non-conforming

prisoners, we refuse to take part in this “talking shop” whilst forced

strip searching and controlled movement remain in place. Other

areas that need to be addressed are too numerous to go into detail

but one example is that when a republican is arrested, he can

expect to spend up to 28 days in an interrogation centre, then if

charged, he’s brought to Maghaberry where he can expect to be

held on landings with loyalists and drug dealers for weeks (in some

cases months) before being transferred to the republican landings.

This is only one of many disgraceful issues that have been allowed

to continue unchallenged for too long. We will not stand idly by as

comrades suffer.

In recent months, we have released two separate documents

relating to the agreement of August 2010 and conditions within

Maghaberry. In both documents we called publicly for unity

between all prisoners, stating that we believed unity was our

strength and would benefit us all if we moved forward collectively.

We asked the other groups of prisoners and anyone outside with

influence and aligned to them to help to achieve this unity.

Unfortunately several months have passed and we have received

no response from either. We are conscious of the fact that a

significant number of POWs who agreed with our analysis and

actions required to obtain our objectives were fully supportive of us

but withheld that support. We now believe that most of those now

have the confidence to vocally show that support and indeed join

us in our struggle. We openly and genuinely welcome those

comrades and any others who share our view regarding gaol

struggle.

Our objective is to establish a republican wing with republican

principles at its core. As republicans we will do whatever it takes to

achieve this. This will necessitate the ending of strip searching and

controlled movement per the agreement of August 2010. We

cannot and will not allow or facilitate any attempt to criminalise

republican prisoners any longer. We ask families, comrades and

republicans at home and abroad for renewed support as we enter

protest action to secure our rights as republicans. Strip searching

remains! Controlled movement remains! Our determination to end

them also remains!

Protest action has commenced at 10pm, Friday 6th May 2011.

Selective policing reveals campaign of harassment

The MacGowan-Macloughlan cumann of the 32csm wishes to highlight recent garda tactics being used to intimidate our activists. In the past week a number of our members have received summons to appear in court for taking part in the Anti fees march of November 3rd 2010. During that march over a thousand students broke away from the main body of the march to show their frustration with the reformist leadership of the union of students in Ireland(USI). A large number of students, along with several 32csm activists occupied the department of Finance building in a peaceful protest. The gardai as usual over-reacted and brutally attacked the people occupying the building. They then deployed riot police to attack a sit down protest. Now in the midst of a renewed campaign of harassment to facilitate the visit of the Queen this incident is being used to harass 32csm members. Of the dozens of students who occupied the building it has been our activists singled out for this attention.

We fully support the students fighting for their right to thrid level education, the agenda of the Fine Gael-Labour coalition is to suppress all dissent, be it social or political. This is merely another stage in their strategy to iplement the demands of the IMF. We urge all geuine socialists and republicans to support our members being harassed for standing against this agenda.

Comrades we are gathered here today to remember volunteer Ronan Mc Loughlin, who was tragically shot down by pro British Free State forces on the 1^st May 1998.

Ronan was a political activist all his life and at a young age came to the conclusion that the only solution to the age old conflict in Ireland was the complete withdrawal of Britain’s colonial machinery from the occupied six counties and the re-establishment of the republic founded in 1919 with the full implementation of the historic 1916 proclamation and the 1919 democratic programme. Partition by its nature is anti democratic and Ronan found that the only way of successfully challenging Britain’s illegal occupation was from the ranks of the Irish Republican Army.

His commitment and drive were an inspiration to all who knew him. It was this commitment to the republican struggle that led Ronan to question the strategy then being pursued by the leadership of the Provisional movement. Although sold to the republican community as a tactic, the process of engaging the British soon took precedent over all aspects of the IRA’s campaign. Ronan and his comrades recognised that this process would have a detrimental impact on the struggle as a whole. Britain has only ever attempted to come to an arrangement with Irish republicanism as a result of a successfully waged military campaign. Firstly in the 1920s and again in a longer more drawn out process in the 1980s and 1990s. The results of both processes were the near defeat of the republican struggle. The only thing stopping the complete destruction of the republican struggle was the presence of a of core republican activists who refused to compromise their republican principles.

It has always been British imperial policy across the world, to divide and conquer. It is no different in Ireland, Britain’s first colony. The Irish Free State was a creation of the British government, a way of cementing partition and also as a mechanism for continuing the war of suppression against the republic established by the last act of Irish self determination. Britain will always put its own interests above those of the Irish people; this has always been the case and will always be.

You would imagine that the leaders of republicanism in the 1980s would have learned from the mistakes of the past, it was criminal to think that a process could be entered into with the British government that would result in anything but the defeat of the republican struggle. Through secret engagements with the British and Free State governments, while men and women were dying fighting crown forces, Adams and co undermined the very resistance movement of which they were leading members, both politically and militarily. It was this betrayal of the freedom struggle that lead to a split within the ranks of the IRA. Ronan, along with many of his comrades, made the choice, to stay true to their ideals and the republic they had been fighting to re-establish. But let us make it clear, Ronan Mc Loughlinn was no “dissident” republican, we, who stand here today, are no “dissident” republicans we have not dissented from our republican principles.

The Dissidents sit on Stormont hill administering British rule. A Provisional Sinn Fein first minister would be the crowning achievement of British policy in Ireland. Former republicans now stand shoulder to shoulder with the commanding officer of the British paramilitary police force and the political leaders of unionism in Ireland to condemn republican volunteers who are continuing to engage crown forces. Republican prisoners of war are, at this moment in time, being brutalised and criminalised, this as provisional Sinn Fein are organising events to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the 1981 Hunger Strike during which ten brave man gave their lives so no other republican prisoner would have to suffer brutality. The image of Bobby Sands used to gain votes for a partitionist party is sickening and an insult to that brave man’s memory. The hypocrisy of the Provisional movement knows no bounds. British rule cannot be reformed, engagement in the Stormont assembly will not bring about Irish unity and participation in that other partitionist parliament Leinster House will not see our goals achieved.

The path that Ronan and his comrades chose was not the easy choice. It would have been much easier to support the so called “Peace” Process, it would have been much easier to have became political activists, part of Provisional Sinn Fein’s quest to obtain political power, rather than to remain soldiers of the republic. But for Ronan it was never about making the easy choice, it was about making the right choice. He like many others remained loyal to the oath they took as IRA volunteers, he remained true to the republic, he remained true to the IRA and its constitution. Ronan along with others could not stand idly by while a once powerful guerrilla army was sacrificed to satisfy the demands of the British government and the unionist establishment. Ronan took the view that those who subverted the IRA’s constitution to accommodate an internal settlement in the six counties ceased to be members of the Irish Republican Army, that they had split and fractured the republican movement. In the face of threats from former comrades Ronan threw himself whole heartedly into rebuilding the IRA and it‘s freedom struggle. It was this fearless commitment that found him in Ashford on that sunny day in May 1998.

The same Free State forces that executed Ronan are here today, they would like nothing better than for Ronan to be forgotten. They would like nothing more than for all the men and women who died for Irish freedom to be forgotten. But our presence here today comrades, sends a powerful message to the Free State government, to the British government and their lackeys in Stormont, that even though they may brutalise us, or try to sideline us or even try and kill us, we remain steadfast and confident that our freedom struggle will be brought to a successful conclusion.

Ronan stands apart from the quislings who killed him, as he died an active member of the IRA, an Irish patriot, dedicated to ending British occupation and interference in Irish affairs. For those of us who knew Ronan, we take inspiration from the man he was. From his dedication to the IRA and the cause of Irish freedom, from his tireless efforts to see his dream of a free united Ireland realised. Ronan, long after partition is confined to the history books, long after those who murdered you are forgotten, you will live in our memories and in our hearts, a true comrade and a brave Irish soldier, your monument will be a 32 county socialist republic.

95 years ago the struggle to end British interference in Ireland generated a clear analysis which thwarted the momentum of the Home Rule Movement.

The signatories of the Proclamation saw then if republicanism did not make a stand British Rule would continue unopposed and administered by their lackeys in Ireland.

Fast forward and today we witness the same betrayal by those who used the republican struggle to further their political egos and to turn back the clock 95 years and are now administering British Rule in Ireland.

This Westbrit mentality that is being espoused today as republicanism is the same mentality that allowed the people to castigate Pearse, Connolly and their colleagues.

The 1916 Proclamation outlined how the Home Rulers were wrong in their analysis and this was ratified by the people in 1918 and in the Declaration of Independence.

Those who violate Irish National Sovereignty today, act contrary to both these historic documents. Imagine asking the American people to violate their Declaration of Independence yet that is what the Irish people are being asked to do today.

To implement the revised occupation and partition of our country the Stormont regime, in tandem with British intelligence, have introduced counter insurgency measures to stop any opposition to their betrayal and a central part of that is British Policing in the occupied area.

What we witness today is British Auxilliary police targeting those opposed to British rule in Ireland with stop on sight searches and draconian legislation as a means to harass and intimate. This is followed with house raids and arrests to further emphasise their dominance in protecting and upholding the illegal sovereign claim of their masters. Their mask has slipped and they are proving to be no different than the reviled RUC. This is political policing.

It is irrelevant what religion the person is who wears the uniform of this force, when they are kicking in a door and arresting a father, brother, son, mother, sister or daughter it is the uniform of British policing in Ireland that is behind it.

The 32 CSM or indeed any republican takes no delight when Irish insurgents attack the PSNI resulting in casualties and we took no delight in the killing of a police officer in Tyrone

The tragedy and trauma experienced by his family is the same tragedy and trauma experienced by all who were bereaved as a result of the intransigence of a foreign government.

Those who accepted for political opportunism a deal with the British Government which violated our sovereignty and who encourage and advocate joining the PSNI must accept their responsibility in his death. Just as John Redmond did before them, when he urged fifty thousand Irishmen to their deaths in World War 1, these so called ‘constitutional’ politicians have blood on their hands.

It is their flawed analysis that has allowed conflict to continue. It is their failure to uphold the principles of the Proclamation and the Declaration of Independence and their failure to end the cause of conflict that has resulted in that conflict continuing.

Anyone aspiring to be a police man or woman should educate themselves as to what they’re expected role in a PSNI uniform is going to be. They should be fully aware that just like the RIC and RUC the PSNI are designed to politically police British Rule in Ireland.

The criminalisation of the republican position has historically and presently failed and this is recognised by those in Stormont who from time to time make statements critical of the justice system, critical of policing tactics and effectively critical of their own position in violating Irish National Sovereignty.

In the 26 Counties the same tactics are being used against republicans and in particular there is a concerted effort, like the British attempts, to play out a propaganda war. Recently we have a concerted move to link members of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement to criminality and to drug and gangland feuding in Dublin with a compliant media prepared to accept downright lies from the Special Branch naming individuals.

These efforts are proof positive of our continuing growth. They are proof positive that our analysis and political activism is being well received.

The attempts to criminalise the 32 CSM will fail.

It is clear that our analysis on the national question cuts through their continuing deceptions and their only weapon against us is lies upon lies. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement will not be deflected from our own strategy in challenging the legitimacy of British rule in Ireland.

The 32 CSM have put forward a peaceful solution to the conflict in our challenge at the UN and in our documents in 2005 to the political parties and the British and Dublin Governments. We outlined our position and asked them for their analysis and response. To date they have failed to do so.

We particularly address this issue to London’s micro deputy minister in Stormont. Time and time again he has falsely asserted that our Movement has failed to engage with his party. He has repeated these lies at every opportunity to deflect from the real issue at hand; his disastrous leadership and negotiations strategy.

So once again we set it out for all to see. You have our analysis; you have our correspondence with you which sets out very clearly our position on meetings with you. You have continually evaded us because you know our analysis lays bare your political impotence in addressing the core issue of Irish national sovereignty. This is why you are running scared of meaningful interaction, preferring instead the media sound byte and the emotive and despicable exploitation of the dead.

The men and women of 1916 gave their unequivocal response to the Home Rule and West Brit mentality and they were prepared to give their lives for that cause. When the signatories of the Proclamation were executed by the British Government a flame was lit that remains bright today. And standing here at their graveside is there any clearer message than their very existence that the British Monarch cannot be welcomed in Ireland?

It is what that Monarchy represents that these men were executed because they chose to defy that Monarchy’s remit in Ireland. That remit remains here today. 1916 was about choices, it is about choices. You have to choose between the Proclamation or Partition; you cannot choose both. And it remains one of the greatest historical ironies that the ones who most ably understand this are the British themselves. And standing on this principle they routed Irish negotiators time after time by first insisting that those same negotiators choose the option which explicitly recognises the legitimacy of the British presence in Ireland. Lloyd George did it with Collins and DeValera and Tony Blair repeated it with Adams and McGuinness.

We stand on the legitimacy of Irish National Sovereignty and say clearly to the British Monarch your violation of that sovereignty renders you an aggressor in our country. We have no welcome for you whatsoever.

In commemorating and remembering the heroes of 1916 and all volunteers who paid the supreme sacrifice we too remember our responsibilities to uphold the principles for which they died.

Our challenge to the British Government is to submit to the UN under international law the evidence of their legitimacy in Ireland and our challenge to those at Stormont is to tell us at what point in time did British Rule in Ireland become legitimate?

As we leave here today let us commit ourselves to the tasks ahead. It is not going to be easy giving the onslaught against us however I believe we are up to the task and we call on all republicans to stand united in the face of adversity.

Herald Gets It Wrong…….Again!

Following a shooting in the Blanchardstown area on March 27^th a certain media outlet tripped over itself in its rush to apportion blame to republicans. Not for the first time have the Evening Herald and its ‘journalist’ Cormac Byrne engaged in this spurious reporting only to be contradicted by that annoying thing called fact. Previously at a shooting in Finglas, in which two cousins were attacked, Byrne and the Herald again chose to promote a tabloid headline without reference to an iota of fact.

But more sinister is the motive behind these blatant lies. The agenda seeks to manipulate armed confrontation between the IRA and criminal elements in the Dublin area. Byrne also postulated that a mythical feud between the IRA and the INLA was behind the Blanchardstown attack. Added to this is the intervention of another Herald ‘journalist’, the retired garda Gerry O’Carroll’ who dangerously speculated that the IRA were preparing to target members of the Gardai.

The press has a pivotal and important role to play in society. It also has an onerous responsibility to print facts above and beyond biased speculation. The ramblings of the likes of Byrne and O’Carroll negate that responsibility and expose a very clear anti-republican agenda wherein only imaginary muckraking passes for journalism.

The 32CSM in Dublin would like to register our concern at the manner in which the Free State authorities and media have responded to the anti royal visit banner outside the Players Lounge pub in Fairview. We have no connection to Mr Stokes or his establishment, however as republicans we feel compelled to speak out at the overt political censorship being inflicted upon his point of view. The decision by John Stokes to erect a banner opposing the royal visit is a welcome and legitimate expression of his political beliefs. Irish republicans have long opposed visits by British monarchs to our shores. In 1911 James Connolly and Constance Marcievicz led the way in opposing the visit of the British Royals.

Republicans in 2011 feel the same way about any such visit. John Stokes has been approached by the Gardai who have attempted to censor and intimidate him for his beliefs. Is this not a country where all shades of political opinion are free to express their ideas? Evidently not! Mr Stokes is now being taken to court under incitement to hatred legislation. This is a ridiculous decision as the banner makes a political statement of opposition to occupation rather than any statement or slur against English people. Mr Stokes had to suffer further harassment through the media when he appeared on the Joe Duffy show on RTE. Throughout the radio program he was subjected to personal abuse and accusations of bigotry. When republicans attempted to get through to the show they were not allowed on, contrary to Joe Duffy's sanctimonious proclamations regarding objectivity. Mr Stokes is being brought to court this Wednesday 16th of march. We urge all republicans and anti imperialists in Dublin and around Ireland to support him in his struggle to defend the right to free speech.

In the past week there has been an escalation and intensification of this harassment. Several families have been subjected to punitive house raids which are being used as a tool of intimidation. The destruction of personal property during these raids is also causing great stress and hardship. No doubt these raids are intended to display the new Garda comissioner's "tough stance" on republicans. Let us be absoloutely clear to him, your predecessors failed to destroy our movement and you will also. We will not be coerced by your thugs in uniform nor criminalized by the compliant Free State media. Perhaps your officers would spend their time more efficiently in dealing with the Gardai who are cooperating with the drugs gangs flooding Dublin with heroin and cocaine. New Years Statement

2011

We commend our activists for their diligence and hard work in attempting to secure the integrity of our national sovereignty. We applaud the efforts of others who struggle likewise under their own chosen banner. We send New Year greetings to republican POW’s and their families and rededicate ourselves to their service.

2010 was a year which laid bare the harsh realities of our struggle. In protest against the degradation of strip searching and its vindictive use republican POW’s embarked on a series of actions in protest against the Stormont’s regime’s deliberate policy of attacking republican prisoners. Matched on the outside by regular vigils and marches the political opposition which was generated forced the authorities into negotiations.

With the use of agreed independent arbiters an agreement was reached to the satisfaction of all. However the authorities have resumed their original policy of using strip searching to degrade the prisoners. This was a political decision which has implications for all republicans. An attack on one prisoner is an attack on all prisoners and demands a unified response from all republican organisations. Our resolve must at least match that of the prisoners if we are to successfully confront Stormont’s prison policy.

The recent disclosure of State papers clearly shows that the issue of republican prisoners was a cornerstone in British strategy to undermine our struggle. They clearly show how Dublin also collaborated to achieve the same end. This collaboration now has an added dimension in that former comrades are now part of the British establishment in Ireland. That establishment takes it for granted that its members collaborate in the wider British interest. We openly call on the PSF leadership to come clean and to stop talking out of both sides of their mouths. It is your regime which is inflicting this degradation on republican prisoners. Is this your so called peaceful alternative to Irish unity? It is your actions that define you, not your words, overt or otherwise.

2010 also witnessed seismic events in economic terms. Fianna Fáil’s self serving economics led the State to bankruptcy. It bailed out bankers and developers and levied the bill on ordinary citizens. They privatised profits and socialised losses. They surrendered their so called sovereignty to the International Monetary Fund all the while denying it in drunken interviews to the people. But the real issue for republicans and socialists is that our protests failed to impact on events. The crisis in capitalism, which should have opened up so many opportunities for our cause, was duly addressed by capitalism itself. This is the reality we must face and we must face it pragmatically.

2011 must be a year of introspection and innovation. We must look at ourselves and address our failings. What went before has reached its zenith. We need to explore and devise new ways of getting our message across. We need to be more innovative in our protests. We can no longer be satisfied that our protests simply happen: they must also have meaningful effect.

We address young republicans everywhere; this is your time, it is your era, your society, your technological age, you need to lead the way on this front. Irish society has evolved a new language in which it communicates with itself and we need to learn it. Republicanism needs your ideas to advance. Our communities have the expectation of new initiatives to assist them. We need to demonstrate to our people that our aims are relevant to their everyday lives and represent an enrichment of society.

The continued violation of our national sovereignty has led to the inevitable consequence of armed struggle. Those who are engaging in military operations against British occupation have every right to do so, as they always had throughout our history. The function of the Sovereignty Movement is not to question this right nor question the merits of invoking it but to address the cause which makes it inevitable. This we will continue to do in whatever way we deem to be progressive. Treating the Irish Republican Army as a militia is a deeply flawed approach. Predicating a peace strategy on the exclusion of Irish national rights is doomed to failure.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement reaffirms our commitment to seeking an end to British Parliamentary activity in our country. The divisions amongst our people can only begin to be resolved when Westminster and its many agendas are finally removed.

Community Remembers

A community came together on a bitterly cold night once again to commemorate those who have died from drug related causes.

About 150 people gathered at Buckingham Street for the symbolic lighting of a Christmas tree organised by ICON- inner city organisations network.

The inner city is still plagued by heroin dealers and the 32 CSM will continue to campaign against all drug pushers who continue to commit crimes against the working class.

There will be a renewed effort against pushers in the New Year.

The McGowan- Mcloughlin Cumann of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement wishes to make clear our vehement opposition to the latest budget from the Free State government. This budget was drafted under the supervision of the International Monetary Fund, it is not surprising then to see that it is attacking the most vulnerable sections in our society. The neo liberal agenda being pursued here is not a result of a downturn in the economy, rather it is an ideological assertion of the right of an elite to power and privilege.

The cuts to the dole and other social welfare are cruel and unnecessary. There is no margin of excess when you have to live on the minimum wage or welfare, the basic minimum is the best the people of Ireland could have hoped for. Now it is clear that they cannot expect even this. There has been a large amount of revisionism put forward about what happened during the so called boom years, and it must be challenged. We did not all benefit and become wealthy during the past ten years; we are not all responsible for the bank bailouts and the crisis. During the "Celtic Tiger" the wealth remained in the hands of the few, so did the power. So it is their responsibility, to pay for their mistakes.

The 32csm has supported the various campaigns against the cuts and we will continue to do so. Our presence on these marches has led to increased garda harassment of our members but we will not be deterred by this. On the march on the 7th of December our members were constantly followed, harassed and physcially contained by a large number of gardai. We would like to thank the gardai for their concern for our safety and we assure them that we are more than capable of taking care of ourselves! We urge all republicans to support the future protests and acts of civil disobedience and we remind the Free State government that just as Ireland unfree shall never be at peace, Ireland under capitalism will never be at peace either.

Today we gather at this spot to honour the memory of Vol. Kevin Murray affectionately known to his family and friends as Kiddo. I take this opportunity to offer on behalf of the 32CSM our sincere sympathy to his Wife Phyllis, daughters Paula and Rose Granddaughters Shannon,Alannah, Kayla, Hayden and his only Grandson Saoirse.

Kevin lost his battle for life 9 years ago on Saturday 13th November. After suffering from severe
headaches and dizziness for some months his appeal for medical attention was finally succumbed to and the tragic news reached his family and comrades that our Kiddo was suffering from a terminal illness, namely a brain tumour and he was released from Portlaoise prison into the care of his family. Make no mistake about it, this was not done on humanitarian grouds, rather was it done to avoid the scandal of a prisoner dying in a free state gaol for lack of medical attention.

Why was Kiddo in that Free State jail?
He joined the Provos as a young man like many other young men had done, firmly believing that
this was a fight to the end and nothing short of a United Ireland would bring peace to our country. When the ceasefire was called on the 31st August 1994 a lot of people were cajoled into believing that this was strategy and just another weapon in the mighty arsenal of the provos, however when Martin McGuinness told a special delegate meeting of the IRA an 1997 “read my lips, there is no ceasefire” a lot of people did just that, they read his lips and then they looked into their own hearts and realised they were being sold down the river. Kevin Murray wasn't so easily taken in.

He realised the only way to achieve his dream of a United Ireland was to continue the fight. He along with the rest of us had witnessed the about turns by the provo leadership, so many turns that they all got dizzy with the lust for power and on 10th april 1998 real republicans were crucified by a so called peace process that would divide comrades yet again. The lies of Adams Mc Guinness and Co.,were so blatent that only a fool would trust them and Kiddo was no fool.

1986 at the Ard Fheis Mc Guinness stated that they would never go into Stormont. On the question of decommissioning we were assured not a bullet would be handed over, it was written on the walls in west Belfast and other parts of the North. How true ,not a bullet was handed over, instead they handed over the
whole bloody arsenal without seeking permission from anyone.
As I said Real republicans were crucified that day but as Christ Himself arose again so too did the
men and women who could not be bought for place or gold, not for them a seat at the traitors table no, to continue the fight was their aim and tragically for me and my family my son Ronan was the first to sacrifice his young life in an effort to keep freedom's flame alive. It was at my son's wake that I met Kiddo, he was in the guard of honour and I felt such a sense of pride watching them watch over my son until he was laid to rest.

Padraig Pearse at the grave of O'Donovan Rossa spoke of the defenders of the realm and warned the people at that time “they think they can purchase one half of us and intimidate the other half but the fools the fools the fools they have left us our fenian dead and while Ireland holds these graves, Ireland unfree will never be at peace”. Those words apply equally today as they did then.

Anyone who disagreed with the 98 sell out were singled out for intimidation and in the case of Joe O' Connor, execution, and this after decommissioning. Did they seriously think that people who couldn't be bought by the Brits would give in to the intimidation of tyrants hypocrites and liars? Let no one be in any doubt that we are here to work unceasingly for a 32 county republic. We have seen the debacle of gangsters in another so Republican Party bring this country to the point of bankruptcy because of their corrupt politics and their former leader has no comment to make on the number of suicides taking place because those poor unfortunates could see no other way out. There is only one answer to our problem and it's the only solution that hasn't been tried the solution that would do away with cross border shopping, the Real solution the solution we in the 32CSM want ,A United Ireland, the Irish people in charge of their own destiny and and Ireland taking her place among the nations of the world. We can do it and with the hard work and dedication of real republicans we will win.

Before we leave this grave today let us spare a thought for another prisoner currently held in
Portlaoise Prison. I speak of Kieron Doran who has lost his appeal against extradition to France
where he was tried in his absence on terrorist related charges and sentenced to a 4 year term of
imprisonment After refusing him the right to appeal to the supreme court. Justice Perth then
proceeded to listen to the representative of the minister for justice Dermot Ahern who told the court that the order for surrender was being proceeded with even though the Minister had the power to overturn it on humanitarian grounds as Kieron is the Father of 7 children and his imprisonment abroad would have a detrimental effect on his family. Not so said the Free State judge, “In these circumstances an order for surrender is not a disproportionate measure. The family rights of the respondant are not interferred with to such an extent as to outweigh the right of the French authorities to seek his surrender. I will therefore make the order sought.” Dermot Ahern deems that the right of the French authorities overrides the right of 7 Irish children to be close to their Father for an Irish wife to be able to visit her husband and indeed for an Irish citizen to serve his sentence in his own country. Sans Frontiers, without borders means nothing to the Minister.

At this late stage the only avenue open to us is to petition Dermot Ahern to rethink his stance and remind him that his government has made innocent people pay for the greed of the bankers and the greed of his government. It's not too late for him to do the right thing in this case at least and overrule the Judges decision, Get those petitions going, beir bua.

IRA Statement

The IRA's position regarding drug dealers is clear and our actions against them are motivated by the need to ensure the safety of the community.
These actions are welcomed by communities who are suffering at the hands of drug dealers.Recently, a number of newspapers have run stories claiming that the
IRA was involved in drugs and prostitution and that members of the Dublin Brigade had been stood down. The stories are lies.

Subsequently, the IRA sent a statement to the Irish Star Newspaper claiming responsibility for the execution of numerous drug dealers. The Star refused to carry the statement but instead carried statements from a Dublin drugs gang styling itself the "Criminal Action Force" which threatened republicans.

The Star newspaper was raided by the Free State Special Branch but nothing was reported in any newspaper. We invite people to analyse these facts for themselves and determine who benefits from this policy of censorship and misinformation.

In Response to Recent Sensationalist Media Articles:

The leadership of the IRA wish to clarify our position on these claims: The IRA have never taken money from criminals and then allowed them to continue to operate, we have in fact relieved them of their finances and weaponry then closed down their operations. Allegations have been made that the IRA extorted a large amount of money from drug dealers and criminals. Anyone with evidence to support these claims should come forward immediately.

The leadership of the IRA have never sanctioned such actions and anyone using our name to tax drug dealers and criminals will be executed. In fact the only organisations in Ireland that take money from criminals and allows them to operate are state agencies, on both sides of the border, who take their assets and allow them to carry on their poison trade.

The IRA postion on drug dealers is clear, they deal death to our communities. We deal with them. Some examples are: Matthew Burns, Kieran Flynn, Jason Eagan, Colly Owens, Geradr Staunton, Kieran Doherty,and Sean Winters, among others.

To those who believe they can escape the reach of the republican movement, we have also executed drug dealers on the continent who believed they were safe, having fled the country. We have crippled, maimed and exiled numerous others.

Anyone caught up in the world of criminality, drug dealing, or issuing threats to republicans should come forward and admit their involvement now. Anyone who does not avail of this opportunity will face the inevitable consequences.

Those who wish to take on the republican movement should realise this. These parasites are members of a gang, the IRA are members of a disciplined army with experience of war.

Dublin 32CSM At The Coalface

The 32csm in Dublin would like to congratulate all the students and activists who joined in the protest on November 3rd against the increase in registration fees. The 32csm were involved in the last campaign to oppose the introduction of fees and we have continuously lent support to students. The march on Wednesday was to show not only the anger that exists amongst students, already struggling in many cases to make ends meet, but also the frustration amongst activists with their representatives in the USI.

Our members joined the independent left wing bloc at the invite of Free Education for Everyone and Students in Solidarity. These students felt like us that a march without action would achieve little and that self serving speeches made by USI representatives with close links to Fianna Fail were not the true voice of the student movement. It was because of this discontent that students bravely broke away in large numbers from the main march to march to the gates of Leinster House to express their anger. The 32csm, eirigi, and the SWP amongst others joined the Students in Solidarity rather than in any attempt to hijack the protest. The reality is that the independent student bloc was organised by and for students who wished to have their voices heard.

Given that the 32csm Dublin branch has several members in third level education it was imperative for us to support such actions. The march then moved onto the Department of Finance where a large group of protestors including ten members of the 32csm managed to break through garda lines and occupied the building. At no point during the occupation did any official from either the department or the gardai approach the students to ask them what their grievances were. Instead the gardai aggressively manhandled protestors both inside and outside until the riot squad showed up. At that point protestors were thrown from the building whilst the gardai punched and kicked them. 32csm members fought back along with our republican and left wing comrades and the solidarity shown in the face of garda brutality was an example that should be followed in the future.

We would like to make clear however that the violence that did occur was initiated by the gardai who attacked a peaceful sit down protest with batons, before charging on horseback into the middle of a crowd of students, many of whom were already injured from earlier garda attacks. Responsibility for the violence lies with the gardai and with USI who by their lack of support for the action ensured that students would not have sufficient numbers to withstand the attacks.

The 32csm opposes the proposed increase in registration fees because we recognize that this is merely third level fees being introduced by stealth; we oppose it because it is another attack by this government on the vulnerable whilst the rich are protected. The neo liberal agenda that is behind such moves will be fought at every turn by the 32csm and we will not be dissuaded by any number of garda batons or media distortions. ictory to the students and workers!

Media Agenda Against Republicans

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement has noted with concern recent media reports of criminality within the Republican Movement in Dublin. A number of our activists have suffered from a concerted smear campaign by ceartain tabloids in an attempt to discredit their work as community activists. We recognize these reports for what they are, another step in the historical process of the Free State and British government's attempts to criminalize republicanism. This is not a new tactic but it is not a trend that can be ignored. The considerable reach of these media outlets means that many people who are not familiar with the 32csm do not have access to accurate information. The reputation of the Sovereignty Movement has been built on the honesty and integrity of our members, as well as their dedication in fighting for the rights of their own communities. It is in that context that we demand these tabloids to produce proof of such activity or to desist from issuing these false reports. Similarly anyone who has any complaint to make about the conduct of any 32csm member should come forward and all reports will be investigated rigorously and in full confidence. We are accountable to our communities, unlike the bankers and media barons that attack working class Dubliners at evey opportunity. We are confident that these contradictory, inaccurate and malicious reports will be shown for the lies they are.

No Welcome For Blair

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement in Dublin condemns the arrest of two of our members at the recent protest against the British war criminal Tony Blair. Our members attended the event to highlight the fact that Ireland remains a partitioned country and that the continued denial of Irish Sovereignty remains the cause of the conflict in the occupied six counties. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement also highlighted Blair's involvement in wars of aggression in both Iraq and Afghanistan and how the warmongering polices of Blair and Bush have directly led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands in both countries.

Despite the bad weather hundreds turned out to protest Blair's presence in Dublin city centre and from the outset it was republicans who were under the scrutiny of the Free States police force. Both plain clothes and uniformed gardai were busy photographing and pointing out members of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement. Not ones for backing down in the face of Free State bullies our members made a concerted effort to push through Garda lines and gain entry to the Eason’s bookstore, in the process pelting Blair’s convoy with eggs etc. Our efforts were met by Garda aggression and in the following scuffle two of our members were arrested and a number of others assaulted.

Republicans are well aware of the heavy gang tactics of the Free State Gardai and refuse to be intimidated by their use of violence; a Garda van containing our comrades was blocked from leaving the area and only the intervention of scores of Gardai and the transfer of our comrades to another vehicle allowed them to proceed. As Blair's convoy was leaving the O'Connell Street area members of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement led part of the crowd to the front door of Eason’s were again we were met with Free State aggression and again our members must be commended for not backing down and forcing the closure of the Eason’s store.

Tony Blair was instrumental in the latest attempt to defeat the Republican Struggle under the facade of the "peace process" and the Good Friday Agreement. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement has again been at the forefront of exposing the myth that the GFA has addressed the cause of the conflict in Ireland. Our actions in Dublin send a powerful message to the British government and there agents in Ireland that we will not be found wanting in confronting them at every opportunity, and that the republican struggle is alive and well.

Donnelly's Release Welcomed

The 32 County Sovereignity Movement in Dublin is delighted to announce the release of our comrade Gary Donnelly from Maghaberry Gaol today after a 7 month incarceration. Gary was imprisoned for refusing to submit to what amounted to "justice" in the eyes of a British judge. He has spent 7 months inside a prison where Irish republicans are fighting a battle that most of us thought had ended with the death of ten men in 1981. Yet still we find an instrangient British government seeking to portray republicans as criminals. They are now aided and abetted by their Stormont lackeys. Gary can now return to his family and will no doubt continue in his efforts to raise awareness about the situation in Maghaberry Gaol. We welcome his release and welcome him home, we also call for the other internees to be released and allowed to return to the families they have been denied access to.

Maghaberry Nightmare Continues

The McGowan –McLoughlin cumann of the 32csm condemns the continuing abuse of the prisoners in Roe House in Maghaberry prison. These men are on 23 hour lockdown and denied recreation and association. This is a situation that has left the men isolated and vulnerable. The prison officers have also continued in the tradition left to them by H Block screws by assaulting republican prisoners. Turlough McAllister is the latest victim of these brutal tactics, he was savagely assaulted by a number of wardens and has now been left with only a t shirt and tracksuit bottoms to wear, with a bucket to relieve himself. This degrading treatment of political prisoners does not go unnoticed or unchallenged. We urge all republicans to stand behind our comrades in Maghaberry at this time. The process of criminalization has not gone away and just as it was fought against by the blanket men and hunger strikers so too must we take a stand in defence of the rights of these men.

The latest edition of the Sovereign Nation demonstrates the width and depth of our political development. We have taken the crucial issue of sovereignty to the national and international stage. We have challenged governments and world bodies to explain to us their positions on the occupation of our country. We have done this, not as selfish owners of our ideas, but as republicans putting republicanism first.

As pragmatists we must confront the occupation as we find it. This is not 1916. In the mid nineties the out workings of illegal, secret negotiations between then republican leaders and the British government were being exposed as a sell-out. It was not the time for recrimination but for resolute action in defence of our national sovereignty. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement stepped in to this challenge. In anticipation of the legal route that both governments would use to usurp our independence we stepped outside of their framework and protected our national rights in international law.

That protection remains secure to this day. But that was only the beginning. Both governments and their new found Irish supporters were determined on the course they had taken. New and fresh ideas were required of republicanism. Again the 32CSM was not found wanting. The Irish Republican Forum for Unity was established to coalesce republican efforts against the new dispensation. It was grounded in a simple reality, republicanism fragmented cannot move forward. It was a breadth of fresh air. It allowed for republicans to come together with the republican base and explore ways forward. Not everyone came along. But none of those who stayed away put forward valid arguments for not engaging.

The Forum’s deliberations directed us toward our own communities. Whatever our ideological stances, if they were isolated from our communities then they were irrelevant. No amount of theorising could circumvent this reality. What republicans are faced with now is the need to create a new interface between ourselves and our people. It’s not enough to descend from on high preaching doctrine. We need to go amongst them and demonstrate the relevance of our ideas to them.

Those ideas will vary. Not greatly. They varied in 1916 yet the Proclamation could accommodate them. We need to reach an accommodation now. As an organisation we are concerned with the issue of national sovereignty. Our position articulates the cause of conflict in our country. This is of paramount importance because the conflict must be resolved by addressing its root cause. Others take the view, as espoused by Connolly, that the struggle is more than the changing of flags. That our people’s liberation from capitalist forces is of equal importance. Both views are correct. But both views will founder if one is used as a precondition in relation to the other. The armed conflict requires a particular politics to resolve it. The social struggle demands that the terms for ending the conflict are not made at its expense. Partition and the financial enslavement of the working classes is proof of this.

The only solution is to resolve the conflict together. And working together is the only approach that our communities will accept. The role of socialists is to involve our people in the struggle for their own liberation. Socialism is a work in progress. It is not a precursor to securing our sovereignty but a participant in that process. Our immediate emphasis must be on resolving the conflict. That resolution is the gateway to securing real social change in our country.

I want to extend greetings to Terry McCafferty who was recently released by his British gaolers. Terry was re-imprisoned because he holds republican beliefs. He was re-imprisoned so that the British Direct ruler could demonstrate his authority on behalf of Westminster, an authority they will not dilute with devolution. We said in Derry at our Easter Commemoration that there would be more Terry McCaffertys. We said that British government policy was one of suppressing republicans irrespective of Stormont. This has proved to be the case. Lurgan republican Martin Corry, an ex POW, had his license revoked by the British direct ruler and is once again incarcerated. We send Martin our solidarity but we also send him our commitment that our efforts to secure Terry’s release will be intensified to secure Martin’s release. Without doubt, as evidenced by recent public protests, a strong prisoner support base is developing. We in the Sovereignty Movement will not be found wanting.

More of our fellow country people remain incarcerated because the root cause of the conflict has not been addressed in the so called peace process. Home Rule is not the issue that needs to be resolved. Pearse told us this in 1916. Devolution of limited powers to micro ministers is not the answer either. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement tells us this today. Sectarian headcounts to determine who sits in that little Westminster on the hill can never pass as Irish democracy.

Policing and Justice Stormont style can be summed up in two words; Section 44. The abuse of this legislation has reached almost epidemic proportions. Every nationalist and republican community has felt its effects. The armed wing of Stormont, in its instinctive haste to persecute republicans, has heralded that normalisation is a myth. And although the establishment media have thus far failed to highlight these abuses they cannot ignore them indefinitely. And to those who sit in Stormont, the actions of your military wing are your actions also. There is no absolution in hiding behind District Policing Partnerships. When you trade sovereignty for deception with the British this is what you get. It is most shameful.

The recent trade off on the Parades Commission is yet another example of fudge. Talk of consulting with communities is all well and good but like Stormont itself it does not address the inherent sectarian nature of the Six Counties. All it does is provide a new theatre for the old tribal conflicts to act themselves out. This has been clearly demonstrated by the seeking of sectarian alliances for the forthcoming general election. Is this the so called new beginning? Is this what they mean when they say that it is us who wish to return to the past? The truth is that the past never left us, they merely renamed it in the hope that our people would be fooled into thinking things have changed. We will not be fooled.

The great flaw in the so called peace process was that it did not defend our sovereignty. Republican opposition to this process was primarily based on this salient point. We are not anti peace, we are not anti politics but we are against any process which seeks to violate our sovereignty as a quick fix to the conflict in our country. We will talk to the British about one issue only, Irish National Sovereignty and Britain’s violation of it. We will seek the UN’s intervention as guarantor for the integrity of such talks so that Perfidious Albion can be left outside of the room. Our door remains open, our resolve remains fixed.

To our unionist brothers and sisters we say this; let us build a new Ireland together. Let us start with a blank canvass without veto or pre condition. Let us all recognise that our fears and concerns are subordinate to Westminster’s interests and used and abused accordingly. Ireland needs a new beginning. It needs a new dynamic in nationhood, a new dynamic in economic development, a new dynamic in expressions of culture and faith. We need a new democratic order that can look back on our history and say assuredly that we have found the way forward. Partition is squalid. It is the product of division and exclusion. It is a throw back to a world that gave us nothing but imperial slaughter. It has to end. And it will end.

The Free State has descended into a melting pot of corruption and political stagnation. Its actions have declared itself unfit for existence. It is so far removed from the ethos of the Proclamation that only the wealthy developers and bankers are cherished equally. It is proof positive that partition is squalid on both sides of it. Dublin has finally lain to rest the flawed notion that a united Ireland is nothing more than subsuming the Six Counties into the Free State. It cannot advance the cause of Irish unity. Using partition to end partition cannot work either. We need to come out from the apparatus of partition and act decisively against it. Merely standing there is not an option.

The Centenary of Easter Week is fast approaching. All sides of the conflict know the significance of this date. The revisionists are working hard to ensure that Partition and the Proclamation can in some way be harmonised. We know they can’t, but that is not enough. We too must prepare and because our resources are not as great as theirs we must prepare in fenian fashion. Our intellectual objections to this deliberate misinterpretation of our history must be matched with action on the ground that leaves our people in no doubt that 1916 is unfinished business. But we cannot wait until then.

We remember the heroes of Easter Week because they acted on their beliefs. They acted on their history, their culture, their ideological discourse and above all they acted in unison. They knew the imperfect day would come. They knew that their preparations would themselves be imperfect. But they grasped the reality that in revolution participation is an essential part of that preparation. Belief becomes redundant when it is not acted upon. Republicans today are at this crossroads also. Our imperfect day is here. We have talked long on belief, on history, on culture and on ideology. We are as prepared as we can ever be. We need to act in unison. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement is now acting on this unity. We urge all republicans to act with us, as themselves, but we are not prepared to wait any longer for you. The patriots of 1916 deserve no less of us.

The 32csm in Dublin would like to take the opportunity to condemn unequivocally the political arrest and imprisonment of our Derry comrade Gary Donnelly on the 5th of March by the RUC/PSNI. This arrest was in response to Gary appealing a fine he received for having his arm broken by RUC man John Neil last year. The judge ruled that Gary was responsible for assaulting a detective whilst in handcuffs after having his arm broken in three places. Gary has received a 7 month jail sentence for this. Aside from the personal difficulty this has now placed on him and his young family this is very much a political issue. The continuing harassment and imprisonment of republicans goes unchallenged by provisional Sinn Fein and the mainstream media. The criminilisation of the 32 county sovereignty movement and other groups continues apace, a policy being rapidly implemented in the six counties by the RUC and in the 26 by their allies in the Gardai. We urge all republicans to protests the imprisonment of Gary Donnelly and all republican prisoners. There is no doubt that with the devolution of policing and justice to the puppet regime at stormont there can only be an increase in these incidents. We call on all republicans regardless of their political affiliations to resist this implementation of British injustice in Ireland.

New Year Statement 2010

We commend our activists for their dedication and hard work in pursuit of the republican goal in 2009. We commend all other republican activists for being true to their beliefs and for being generous and inventive in listening to the beliefs of others. 2009 was a year which witnessed that inventiveness being translated into political action which was widely recognised throughout the republican base. It represented the most potent expression of solidarity with imprisoned comrades. It is solidarity in action with those who were bereaved in the struggle. It is also the way forward for Irish republicanism.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement has a clear vision for the year ahead. The reclamation of our sovereignty must take real form. We must give leadership to our communities to help them achieve this. Throughout Ireland communities have been betrayed by the institutions of faith, finance and state which have long purported to speak and act on their behalf. The abundance of trust placed in the integrity of individual leaders has proved misplaced. They have been left leaderless.

They have not, however, been left powerless. It is in recognition of this reality that the 32CSM will now engage with our communities. In a disciplined approach the 32CSM will liase directly with local communities to explore ways of reclaiming their sovereignty, and under these auspices, help them pursue their political and social objectives. We will focus our efforts in ensuring that all community activity will by default be a pursuit toward national sovereignty. Such a process will be a challenge to both states. It is a first step in filling the vacuum left by those who are now wholly subsumed into the apparatus of partition.

Communities so organised can become the template for national freedom. The republican objective is twofold; to secure our sovereign independence and to organise a just society within that independence. Like our republican forebears we can now enact our aspirations, we can involve our people with our beliefs in real and tangible terms. Republicanism cannot be detached from the people and the people cannot be detached from the strategies deployed to secure their freedom. We can only lead through democratic involvement with our communities.

Because it is a first step it must be taken with due diligence. We have prepared our arguments and are refining our position as mandated at our Ard Fheis. It will be democratic. It will be a learning process which will require discipline, patience and pragmatic political judgement. Republicans cannot interact at a distance. We need to create a new interface between ourselves and our people which will allow us to seek their mandate for our struggle. This mandate will not be measured by a gerrymandered vote. Its value will be in its democratic integrity and its sovereign credentials. For us the ballot box means more than just numbers. Democracy can only be returned to the Irish people when their national sovereignty is recognised.

Because it is a challenge to the state the state will obviously respond. Mistakes will be made, but also learned from, and it is this disciplined approach which will allow for this engagement to spread successfully to other areas. In part the success of this project may be gauged from the state’s reaction to it. They will not be alone. Establishment Nationalists will also have a vested interest in seeing this project fail. They will seek to divide and conquer. But a clear understanding as to the implications of its sovereign distinction and clear democratic practices will thwart them. After all it was disdain for democracy within their own organisations which led them into the cul de sac they now find themselves.

The 32CSM will be active on other fronts. Two major international initiatives will be launched in the coming year. We have observed how issues at play on the international stage are geared toward political events in the occupied six counties. We have made our intentions known to the relevant governments that we are determined to follow a particular path challenging any move that would seek to de-legitimise the republican struggle. These initiatives are for the benefit of Irish republicanism, we will not claim sole ownership of them. But we will provide the leadership that will open up counter arguments for all republicans to employ against these nefarious measures.

Republican unity in 2009 resulted in impressive demonstrations on a range of issues. The continuing media and political demonising of republicans is proof of their effect as is their grudging admission of our growth. The media and political establishment’s objective is to ignore us but through mutual cooperation we have made this impossible. In the coming year this cooperation can be galvanised within our communities as these issues now become their issues in pursuit of our national objectives.

The British Government’s strategy of finally destroying any vestige of republicanism within the provisional movement will not be allowed to undermine the separatist ideal. A resurgent republicanism will demonstrate to both governments and the international community that the destruction of the provisional movement was the liberation of Irish republicanism. It is up to all of us to ensure that 2010 clearly demonstrates this reality.

Special Branch Harassment Continues

On Saturday the 12th of December eight 32CSM members from the Dublin cumann attended an anti drugs rally on O’Connell Street. The rally was organised in conjunction with COCAD and was intended to raise awareness around the issue of drug abuse ravaging working class communities. After the protest, as the 32CSM members were preparing to leave, they were approached by two detectives who began to harass some of the members present with insinuations and aggressive posturing.

One of the branch members illegally refused to identify himself as required under law and the 32CSM members began to walk away. The detective then physically accosted a sovereignty movement member and called for backup. The sovereignty movement members began to tell passers by what the branch men were doing only to be told by the detectives to stop. Refusing to do so the sovereignty movement activists were allowed to walk away but were followed again with more harassment including all eight members being searched. Having failed in their clear objective of provoking a physical confrontation the branch men resorted to childish threats.

The 32CSM wishes to highlight the ongoing harassment of its members by both the Gardai and the Special Branch. Routine and petty harassment is clearly designed to both deter people from joining and to make members lives more difficult. In the face of this regular and provocative behaviour the sovereignty movement in Dublin has refused to allow itself to be denigrated and continues its work unhindered by Free State oppression.

32 County Sovereignty Movement: Free Maura Harrington

On a day when the government chose to impose savage cuts on the least well off to compensate for the reckless behaviour of bankers and developers they also chose to imprison an Irish Citzen endeavouring to protect our natural resources as the property of all the Irish people. Judge John Haughton sentenced Maura Harrington to nine months imprisonment and the severity of the sentence seems to be meant as a deterrent against further similar activities by Ms Harrington and others. Not content to allow bankers squander billions alone they also allowed a corrupt and convicted Cabinet Minister negotiate a deal with the Shell Corporation to siphon billions of our natural resources into private hands. The concept of the people being the nation no longer holds true for them.

The harassment of activists by Shell and their local lackeys is not a pattern unique to Ireland and the atrocities committed by Shell against the native people in the Ogoni in Nigeria which culminated in the Shell sponsored state executions of the Ogoni Nine shows the lengths to which they will go for profit. The 32CSM supports the people of Mayo in their struggle against Shell and the brutality of the Gardai in dealing with protestors. We call for the immediate release of Ms Harrington and any imprisoned Shell to Sea activists and for an immediate cessation to Shell construction projects in Ireland. To Maura Harrington and her comrades we trust the spirit of Ken Sara Wiwa will continue to sustain you.

The 32CSM in North Dublin has been informed in recent weeks of a spate of burglaries and anti social behaviour in Donaghmede. These attacks on the community in the area come at a time when working class areas are also suffering from the neo liberal policies of a government that cares little for the people of Ireland. Just as the sovereignty movement condemns the attacks on the Irish people by this government and seeks to fight for their basic rights so we will also take a stand on local issues that affect our communities. We have been informed by local residents that these acts have been perpetrated under various guises to gain entry to the homes of residents. The elderly have been targeted in many cases and are living in a state of constant fear. This is unacceptable and will be dealt with accordingly. We urge all residents of Donaghmede and any communities suffering similar problems to contact their local 32csm representative with any information on these incidents.

The failure of the Gardai to respond to the needs of local people merely reflects their stance of supporting the government’s supporters, the wealthy and the powerful. The 32CSM will not abandon the people of Dublin as the political elite have done. To the perpetrators of these acts we advise you to cease and desist. The consequence of attacking communities is to isolate yourselves from society. To prey on the weak is to attack the fabric of community and this is an intolerable trend in working class areas. Anti social behaviour will not go unanswered and requests for assistance from the 32CSM will be heeded as they have been recently in Cavan, Cork and in the Six Counties.

Lisbon Treaty Referendum October 2nd 2009

As predicted, and as expected, the people of the Twenty Six Counties face another vote on the already defeated Lisbon Treaty. Following on from the sidestepping of the Dutch and French people’s rejection of the EU Constitution the second referendum being held here is yet further proof that democracy is viewed as a hindrance to the current EU direction. Despite platitudes about different contexts and binding guarantees the true intent of this referendum is to be found in the politics behind it. Fearful of an almost certain rejection of Lisbon in a British Referendum if a change of government were to occur in London the Irish people are being forced to revisit their decision because foreign political opinion deems it expedient to its interests that we do so. It is a mockery of Irish sovereignty on a par with the continuation of partition. Once again the British Government is imposing its will on the outcome of an Irish election.

It is clear that the acceptance of democratic will is deemed less worthy of guarantee by those who sought it, but argued for a different outcome. The so called guarantees issued by the EU Heads Of State are designed to give the illusion of change to justify the calling of a second vote. The Lisbon Treaty remains the same. The so called guarantees are not being voted on. If Lisbon is passed there is no legal prohibition preventing the Heads Of State reconvening afterwards to overturn the so called guarantees. Dublin can veto this of course but that merely amounts to a political promise that they would act in such a fashion. Given that they went to Europe like chastened schoolchildren after the people exercised their veto, there can be no realistic expectation that Dublin will act contrary to the wishes of Brussels.

Because the Lisbon Treaty remains the same our original objections to it remain the same. But the second referendum does open different fronts on which objections to Lisbon can be expressed. Not least of these is the economic crisis. A crisis cannot be resolved by those who created it, employing the same failed ideologies, electing the same failed political elites and endorsing the same failed policies which they are wedded to because of the influence of corrupt bankers and developers. It may well be the better option that this economic crisis can only be resolved by confronting it with a political crisis which has no option but to force change through. It is not acceptable that working people should be subject to periodic bouts of economic boom, followed by economic doom, whilst the architects of it bask in the financial security of massive wages, bonuses and pensions. Small wonder that it is from these quarters that passing Lisbon is most cherished.

Equally, there exists a mindset in the Twenty Six County body politic that holds that financial failure and misdoing should be rewarded as opposed to being punished. The banks acted wholly irresponsibly yet are rewarded for same. State appointees, part of the crony culture, who viewed the public purse as a slush fund for extravagant living, are excused with massive remuneration packages form the very same public purse they abused in the first place. This is the political mindset which boasts of having been involved in the negotiations which gave us the Lisbon Treaty.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement calls on the people of the Twenty Six Counties to remain firm in their rejection of Lisbon. We say that there is a consequence for saying No which confirms that a No Vote can effect change if the political will exists to do so. If that will does not exist, then that too must be changed.

A chairde on behalf of the National Executive of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement I welcome you here today. Bodenstown is a place of pilgrimage for Irish republicans. It is a place that reinvigorates us whether we march here in our thousands or in lesser numbers like today. This graveside has witnessed the words of many great republicans who struggled before us. It has witnessed great moments in the evolution of republican thinking. Alas, it has also witnessed the seeds of betrayal cloaked in green intentions. Today it is the turn of the 32CSM to add our analysis and views on how our struggle can be advanced. I am honoured to do this for you today.

As you are aware the 32CSM has over recent years redefined the role of annual commemorations from being events of reflection to being events of forward thinking and self criticism. The true lineage back to Wolfe Tone is to be found in the forward lineage to securing his objectives. Since we last gathered here our organisation has taken the struggle to our opponents. We have expanded our presence throughout the country and have been to the forefront in encouraging republican unity.

At the beginning of the year we launched our campaign against the Lisbon Treaty re-run. We acted early because we recognised our limited resources needed as much time as possible for our initiative to gather momentum but also to inject a republican take on the debate at the earliest opportunity. In tandem with this we sought dialogue with other republican and socialist groupings to endeavour to forge a united opposition so that our view on Lisbon would not be drowned out by the din of more moderate groupings. Our own efforts have borne fruit and we have accumulated an impressive amount of literature which we will be distributing in the run up to the October poll.

Central to our campaign against Lisbon is ensuring that sovereignty as it affects the Irish people in all its forms will be high on the agenda. The last campaign challenged all those opposed to Lisbon on the grounds of sovereignty violation to extend their opposition to its violation by London. An issue like this cannot be isolated from the broader political context. Partition, the theft of our natural resources and the financial scandals are all sourced from the same political mindset which now asks us to vote yes to Lisbon. I urge all republicans and socialists to form a common bond for this campaign and push for a No vote and then continue to push beyond that again to say No to partition. The republican voice will be heard.

In the Six Counties the twin strategy of normalisation and internment by remand continues. The 32CSM have been active against both. The Statelet and its political operators are desperate to convince people that the issue of policing is resolved and separate from the constitutional question. Nothing could be more inextricably linked. And thanks to our activists and comrades in the Unity Initiative we have politically demonstrated this by forcing the abandonment of several DPP meetings in the occupied area. We have challenged them from both within and without and our tenacity has exposed these bodies as toothless fronts of a normalisation strategy. I congratulate all republican activists engaged in these protests. Our efforts will continue.

I also at this point wish to congratulate the fighting spirit of our youth who have defended their areas against RUC backed loyalist incursions. In your determined way you have shown to the world that the Six Counties remains a war zone because the true cause of the conflict here was sidelined in the so called peace process. By your actions you have proven that that process is a sham. But what I want to say to you now is this; build the political alternative that your actions cry out for. Come into republican organisations and help us to put in place the alternative structures to partition. Compliment your resistance with a cogent political argument so that those who would attempt to criminalize you can be exposed as servants of the crown.

As Windscale was changed to Sellafield and Long Kesh was changed to The Maze the British tactic of rebranding its oppression to sanitise it continues. On the flimsiest of grounds Irish republicans are being routinely interned via a remand process. Terry McCafferty and Colin Duffy are examples of this oppression. We have embarked on a continuous series of successful pickets and protests to highlight their plight. But we may need to examine other options to bring this matter to a head. This policy is not confined to the Six Counties alone. In the Twenty Six Counties similar events have occurred. Republicans from Derry and Munster have recently been released from custody following lengthy periods of incarceration and stringent bail conditions. In the Munster case republicans who had been cleared by the appeal court were suddenly rearrested some months later and brought before the Special Criminal Court on the exact same charges from which they had been exonerated. This blatant attempt to secure convictions at any cost was even too much for the Special Criminal Court which was forced to concede that it had no jurisdiction to try the men because the appeals court had already dealt with the matter. Thankfully the men are now free.

We make mention of Michael Campbell currently incarcerated in appalling conditions in Lithuania. Again activists of the Irish Republican Prisoner Welfare Association have regularly picketed the Lithuanian Embassy in Dublin to protest at Michael’s treatment. Added to this is the current plight of his brother Liam Campbell. Having been rammed off an Irish road by British personnel he now faces extradition proceedings to Lithuania. In an absolutely disgraceful turn of events a court, calling itself Irish, whom Liam was before on the same proceedings, allowed a British court to take precedence where the welfare and liberty of an Irish citizen was concerned. It reinforces the historical correctness of those who opposed the 1922 Treaty with all their might. I take this opportunity to send solidarity to all republican POW’s and also to Pol Brennan who seems to have lost his long battle against deportation from the United States. Our determination to campaign on their behalf remains undiminished.

In Belfast, Derry and Cork the 32CSM joined with thousands of other Irish citizens in protesting at the Israeli invasion of Gaza. The invasion was clearly an exercise by the Israeli forces to punish the Palestinian people of the region for democratically electing Hamas as their political representatives. The invasion followed on from a policy of embargoes which were designed to keep the Palestinian people in subjugation but like all imperial powers they misjudged the resolve of an oppressed people. As in Ireland false agreements, bolstered by outside influences, will not resolve that conflict. Palestinian sovereignty must be given the ultimate expression of a homeland otherwise the conflict will continue. We are also mindful of spurious calls from these shores that the process which led to the Good Friday Agreement should be used as a template for conflict resolution. We say clearly to our Palestinian and Basque brothers and sisters this is not the way forward. Do not compromise on your right to sovereignty. Do not barter your right to sovereignty in exchange for cheap reforms or populist support. Our struggles are too historic and just for that.

Comrades the template for the republican struggle began with Wolfe Tone. A profound and insightful visionary he seen clearly the use of sectarianism as a means by which the British could divide our people and maintain their occupation. He argued passionately for the unity of Catholic Protestant and Dissenter not just to rid our land of the British Government but for all Irish people to live in our country in peace. The unionist identity with Britishness cannot be ignored but neither can democracy be usurped to accommodate it. There is a dilemma at the heart of unionism which republicans must help them to address. Unionism pledges loyalty to an entity it will never trust. And it is that mistrust which has led to its siege mentality.

In 2005 the 32CSM sent a submission to unionist leaders inviting them to engage with us on the future of our country. Thus far they have declined but our door remains open to them. Republicanism is open to political arrangements which gives voice to the unionist identity. Prominent amongst these is the Eire Nua proposal, a central tenet of Republican Sinn Fein, which the 32CSM acknowledged at our recent AGM as a possible working formula for a United Ireland. It is not cast in stone but it does demonstrate that republicans are acutely aware of the views of a million of our fellow Irishmen and Irishwomen whom we view as an integral part of the Irish nation. We will never look upon you as a reason to keep the Irish people divided as a flawed strategy to maintain a flawed peace.

Comrades I thank you for your activism over the previous twelve months. I adjure you all to redouble our efforts for the next twelve months ahead. Our historical leaders remain our guides but for now it is us who must make the journey.

Republicanism and Anti Facism
The recent vandalising of the Sean Russell statue in Dublin has again raised the spectre of fascism in republican minds. Russell has been accused of being a nazi sympathiser. This is nonsense, he was an Irish patriot who sought to aid his comrades in Ireland with material support. The regime that offered it wasn’t a particularly appealing one but those who would condemn Russell should remember that as late as 1939 the British government were cutting deals with the Nazis, sacrificing Czechoslovakia to the Germans and only declared war when eventually Hitler invaded Poland with whom they had a treaty. Sean Russell was not a nazi but those that daubed swastikas on the memorial to him have given us an opportunity to address the issue of republicanism and fascism today.

The history of republicanism and anti fascism is long and can be traced back to such men as Frank Ryan and Kit Conway who led volunteers to fight against General Franco’s fascist armies. This was a continuation of the fight against fascism that had been going on on their home soil against Eoin O Duffy and his Blueshirts. The Blueshirts supported the anti republican Free State factions and were reactionary, mostly middle class conservatives. The vicious street fights between republicans and fascists laid the ground for the men who would travel to Spain to fight with their international comrades in the International Brigades. The republican volunteers served bravely and fought honourably in the Spanish Civil War, unlike the 700 men who followed O’Duffy who made a nuisance of themselves and failed to make any headway.

The recent passing of Bob Doyle, an International Brigade veteran, was an event that brought the relationship between anti fascism and republicanism into sharp focus. The cooperation between republican and left wing groups in commemorating him was inspiring. It also served to remind us that we cannot stand idly by as republicans in these present times as the threat of fascism re emerges across Europe and Ireland.

The flip side of the relationship between republicans and anti fascists has always been the cooperation between fascists and loyalists. This relationship goes back 80 years as British fascists in the 1920s had set up in Co Down and cooperated with local loyalists in pogroms against Catholics. In the 1930’s Glaswegian fascists travelled to Belfast for the 12th of July to engage in sectarian coat trailing with their loyalist comrades. It is not surprising to find links between loyalism and fascism/racism/neo nazis, the ideologies are markedly similar. They preach superiority, hate and intolerance. In the 1980’s the UDA had strong links with the national front in Britain and NF members frequently attended Loyalist marches, fundraisers and concerts. The young Johnny Adair was an ardent admirer of the racist skinheads and fronted a skinhead band in his youth. National Front publications often expressed ardent support for Loyalist organisations and held fundraisers for Loyalist prisoners. In the 2000 Drumcree standoff around 20 Combat 18 members travelled from Britain to support the Loyalists.

In June 2008 republican graves in Milltown were daubed with Combat 18 slogans by Loyalists, further underpinning the growing links between the groups in recent years. The expulsions of Polish and Romanian families by the UDA has been welcomed by British fascists. Racist leaflets have been distributed in the Waterside with National Front type material, they also called for a shoot to kill policy on “dissident republicans”.

The rise of the BNP in Britain is cause for concern for the left across Europe who have seen the right on the rise in France, Austria and elsewhere. It is also a timely reminder to Republicans that the links established between Loyalists and far right racist gangs look set to strengthen in the years ahead. The sectarian attacks on Catholics will continue and will broaden to include immigrants as has already been seen.

Republicanism is based on inclusion for all, this must be the basis for our staunch opposition to all forms of racism and bigotry. In this we have allies within the anti fascist movement that must be utilised and aided. They are not the type to daub swastikas on statues of republicans, they have long sympathised with the republican struggle and the overlap of the two must once again be renewed.

The proliferation of far right groups can be attributed to mainstream political failure as well as economic woe. These are two conditions in abundance in Europe but also in Ireland. The time to stamp out fascist groups is in their infancy before they are incapabable of being destroyed. The defence of the working class by republicans has long earned a respect for our cause. This must continue. The war is not only being fought in the occupied Six Counties but also on the streets of working class towns and cities in the Free State. The excellent example set by republicans stamping out anti social behaviour should continue and be extended to include any emerging far right groups in the present or future. With solidarity will come victory.

McCarthy Report Creates Deeper Divisions
Dublin 32 County Sovereignty Movement

The recent publication of the McCarthy Report (An Bord Snip Nua) concerning government cutbacks further illustrates the massive divisions which exist in Irish society. Those that are being penalised most are those who had least responsibility for creating the financial crisis. The report has been compiled by individuals who are so far removed from poverty line existence that they are completely blind to the impact their proposals will have on ordinary citizens. The complete absence of any semblance of social justice in the report underlines the fact that to the wealthy elite percentages and number crunching are more important than people.

It has been clear from the inception of the current economic crisis that the government’s strategy for its own survival would entail the fostering of divisions within the working class most notably between the public and private sectors. Frightened of the political potential a united working class would represent the government has now compounded these divisions with the publication of this report. The reckless bankers and greedy developers, the architects of the economic calamity, remain untouched, as workers taxes bail them out. The McCarthy Report, if unchallenged, will define social policy for the next fifty years, widening the inequality that already exists.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement calls for a unified republican socialist response to this development. We place as the cornerstone of this response the ending of all divisions amongst our people. This social struggle cannot take place independent of the issues of Partition or Europe. The injury caused by partition to the economic well being of Ireland’s people is immeasurable as vast resources have been squandered to maintain this affront to Irish democracy. Equally we cannot stand idly by whilst funding is removed from schools and hospitals when billions from our natural resources leave our shores via the Shell Corporation.

The upcoming Lisbon Referendum affords republicans and socialists an ideal platform to galvanise support against the political drift being championed by Brussels. There are those who will say that these issues have nothing to do with the referendum but the fingerprints of those who orchestrated the bailout of the banks are on the Lisbon Treaty also. The tentacles of the European Central Bank and the EU Commission stretched deeply into the economic policies of the Member States making them more than culpable for the widespread reckless practices. To argue now that the EU, as Lisbon would have it, should be viewed as our only economic hope is a sham. A new European Community needs to be fashioned on the basis of democracy, sovereign independence of its members and social justice. The first step in achieving this is the fashioning of a New Ireland.

On behalf of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement I would like to welcome you all to Arbour Hill Cemetery. I wish to thank the National 1916 Commemoration Committee for their efforts in making today a fitting tribute to the men and women of Easter Week. I would also like to congratulate, and pay tribute to, all those republicans who marked the 93rd anniversary of the Easter Rising with dignity, principle and a clear understanding of what those in 1916 died for. Our annual commemoration of this seminal event has moved beyond a simple remembrance ceremony. It is now an event which we use to measure our political gains in the previous year. And although there would be a temptation to gauge that measure in terms of our physical growth we have a more certain criteria which can tell us how far we have travelled. The howls of cant and hypocrisy from governments and establishment nationalists directed against us grow louder as we grow stronger. The more desperate their accusations against us the more evidence we see of the sure inroads we have made against them. Let us stay the course. And we do this not by responding in kind but by responding with our political analysis and our activism. We have no need to stoop to their level because republicanism has no place there.

There are those who would say we are traitors gathered here to commemorate the actions of traitors. Pearse and Connolly were deemed to be traitors because the British trenches in the Somme were filled with Irishmen deceived into thinking that fighting in the imperial slaughter of the First World War would lead to Home Rule. Pearse and Connolly said it wouldn’t, and they were right, but still they were vilified and executed. Ninety three years later republicans once again state that the Home Rule strategy will not deliver Irish freedom. Calling us traitors for saying so from the steps of Stormont, flanked by Britain’s head policeman in Ireland, proves we are also right. We are immensely proud to share the views of Pearse and Connolly.

Our role as republicans is to bring democracy to Ireland. We fight for democracy because democracy is denied us. Those that vilify our opposition to the current constitutional status quo because they claim the Irish people overwhelmingly voted for it cannot have it both ways. They cannot say on the one hand that the majority vote should be binding against us but subject to a veto by a minority on the island. They cannot hide behind the populism of a vote whilst negating the democratic effect of that vote. If the votes of the Irish people are to have any meaning then the British government must remove itself from that process so that an Irish government mandated by those votes can govern our country alone. This is what they fought for in 1916 and this is what we fight for today.

Once again British soldiers are being killed on Irish soil. Once again British soldiers are using Irish soil to train to kill in foreign wars. Once again establishment nationalists have moved to support the British regime in Ireland. Nothing has changed. Claiming that unity will be achieved by 2016 is similar to the deception employed to lure men to their deaths in the fields of Flanders in the lost hope of securing Home Rule. Nothing has changed here either. The men and women of 1916 fought for fundamental change. They were not reformists, but Irish separatists who articulated the basic republican message that our sovereignty is inalienable and indefeasible.

This year also marks the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the First Dail Eireann. The First Dail was the Proclamation in action. It was an Irish parliament of, by and for the Irish people. It declared our independence to the world and set about a radical social programme to cherish all of the children equally. It remains our blueprint for the future of our country and our people.

Our history is one of conflict because too often our history has been repeated. Political arrangements which usurp Irish sovereignty cannot lead to peace or freedom. Inherent in these arrangements is the attempted suppression of those who seek to defend our sovereignty. They murder us. They hang us. They intern us. They intimidate us. They malign us. It represents that familiar colonial chorus, ever desperate to maintain itself. Trading civil rights in return for recognition of foreign rule condemns our children to fight for that most basic of rights, their own freedom. The men and women of 1916 were not fooled or bought by the trappings of Home Rule nor intimidated by the forces of Westminster and her Irish lackeys. For them democracy meant more than an opinion poll rating or a gerrymandered election. The voice of the people can only be heard if it is freely expressed.

And this is the message which republicans need to articulate today. As republicans we need to put before the people our framework from within which Irish democracy can function without external impediment. We need to set our case against British occupation in a way which is relevant to our people’s needs today. Our aims cannot be solely the product of the past nor can they be a slave to that past. British reasons for remaining in Ireland will change according to modern British interests and republican strategies opposing these interests must adapt accordingly. But in doing so we cannot repeat the failures of history by compromising the legitimacy of our position for the appearance of short term gain. The British have no right to be here and our right to resist them is a matter for us to determine and not them.

We are constantly asked; what is your alternative? The answer depends on who is asking the question. To those who call us traitors we say; any alternative but yours. To those who call us anti democratic we say; let us negotiate without pre conditions. To those republicans who genuinely seek an alternative we say; let us construct one together. We must be clear that the Good Friday Agreement represents a significant defeat for republicanism. And in the face of this we need to be pragmatic and not reactionary. Recrimination is not an alternative. Working constructively together is. Along with other republican comrades the 32 County Sovereignty Movement has engaged in an initiative to forge a way forward from a unified republican position. The ideology behind it is the ideology of necessity. All republican banners are welcome because all republican banners are needed.

How we engage with the Irish people is as important as what we engage them on. From the outset the truth of what we say will be judged by the strength by which we say it. Eloquence and emotion are no substitutes to a unified voice. The politics of conflict resolution requires clarity to ensure that any resolution is just and democratic. Armed conflict is in existence because such a resolution has not been entered into. Neither republicans nor the British government can invoke the existence of armed conflict as an excuse not to engage in a process to find a final democratic resolution to the Anglo Irish conflict. We have to deal with reality as it is and not how we wish it to be.

Standing here in commemoration of 1916 let us invoke the clarity of the Proclamation as we now address the British government today. You must leave Ireland. If, as you say, you have no selfish, strategic or economic reasons for remaining in Ireland then there is no excuse for you not to leave. There is no problem in Ireland which demands your presence that the Irish people themselves cannot resolve. If you require a framework to allow you to disengage from our country we will construct one for you. But for this to happen you must go before the international community and renounce your claim to sovereignty over the Six Counties. A claim of sovereignty represents the bedrock of any strategic interest so let this be the basic test of your intentions.

We call on all republicans to realign ourselves around the securing of achievable aims. We have set forth a programme to rebuild the republican movement through political advancement. We have proposed that commemorating 1916 should be the annual barometer by which we measure our success especially in the run up to its centenary in 2016. Irish republicanism must be in a position on the occasion of this centenary to tell the Irish people that concrete political gains have been made toward making national reunification an unstoppable reality. The Proclamation is too important a document to condemn it to perpetual aspiration.

The Unity Initiative is the only realistic way forward. Armed struggle is a reality in our midst. We must address it for what it is, a symptom of the unwillingness of the British government to engage on the core cause of conflict, namely, its illegal claim to sovereignty over part of our country. For those who want armed struggle to cease they must come forward with proposals to address its cause. The politics of condemnation is a failed irrelevancy just as British micro Ministers are sitting in Stormont. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement have endeavoured since its formation to put such proposals into the public domain.

We sought a peaceful alternative through the auspices of the United Nations only to have that route disbarred to us when the US authorities, acting on influence from London and Dublin, banned our organisation from travelling there. But we are not deterred by this and efforts are underway to petition the Obama administration to reverse this policy. Because contrary to previous declarations made there, Ireland is not at peace.

There are now calls from different quarters to seek dialogue with us. There are those in the media who have advocated this course and there are those who think we should be dealt with as a security issue. But there are also those who make this call but who have no intention of following it through. This tells us that they cannot ignore us because they cannot ignore the cause of the conflict. In its recent statement Oglaigh Na hEireann spelled this out very clearly;
“History has shown us that compromise with the British on the issue of national sovereignty has always resulted in those who have compromised condemning those who continue to uphold and defend Irish sovereignty. Our struggle is against the British occupation forces and the administrative arm of the British government in Ireland”
The 32CSM have also made our position abundantly clear. We put forward our case based on its own merits. We stand over this, confident and prepared. We have no need to exploit the past efforts of high profile republicans to present an emotional aura to our view. We do not need to parade the contributions of individual republicans to the struggle just because they happen to agree with us now and then jettison them if they happen to change their stance in the future. Our position is based on reasoned argument and not personality. We hold no allegiance to a cult leadership but to the objective at hand. I make a personal appeal now to all republicans not to allow themselves or their contribution to the struggle to be hijacked by sectional interests who have only their own narrow agendas to fulfill. All those who have struggled, all those who are struggling and all those who will struggle are equals within that struggle. No republican has the right to say to another that just because they fought and did not secure the objective that nobody else has the right to continue that fight in a manner they deem imperative.

The 32CSM have sought dialogue with both governments, unionist and nationalist parties in an attempt to seek a peaceful way forward but these offers have been largely ignored. We thank all those who worked toward achieving this. And we say it again now; if you truly believe our position is so flawed come and tell us how, rather than grandstanding on media soap boxes. Our door remains open and we will not stop knocking on yours.

Comrades, the template of 1916 remains supremely relevant for us today. It was republican unity which drafted the Proclamation and allowed for the accommodation of its diverse views so magnificently. It was republican disunity which led to that fateful confusion on that day. They have given us the benefit of their foresight and the lessons of their errors. Let us leave here today all the wiser for both.

E3 Prison Protest to escalate.

The current protest by republican POW’s on E3 landing in Portlaoise gaol is set to escalate following a ruling that yet another prisoner has been denied temporary release by the Free State department of justice. Last week two republicans prisoners went on a no wash/dirty protest over the politically motivated denial of temporary release, more prisoners were set to follow but an agreement was made between the Irish Prison Service and the Officer Commanding republican POW’s to call a temporary halt to the escalation of the protest in order to see what moves could be undertaken to end the action by the prisoners.
Earlier today the OC of the prisoners informed the IRPWA that the Irish Prison Service had come back empty handed and another prisoner was denied temporary release. It seems that the Department of Justice and the Irish Prison Service are committed to the policy of confronting republican prisoners.
We have been informed that all republican prisoners on E3 will join the protest on Monday. The POW’s had earlier stated that they would stagger men in pairs until the whole landing was on protest, the OC has informed the IRPWA that this is no longer the case as the prisoners now see no merit in this course of action.
The IRPWA call on the entire republican family to support the men in their protest and to support the IRPWA in a series of protests they are now planning, we thank those republican comrades who have already come out in support of the POW’s.
The Department of Justice and the Irish Prison Service are making a grave mistake if they think they can call these man’s bluff and they are guilty of a gross underestimation of the Óglaigh na hÉireann POW’s resolve.

Protest on E3 Portlaoise Goal.

It is with great regret that the IRPWA call upon the republican family to once again support POW’s in their protest against the blatant injustice of the Prison system in Ireland.
The IRPWA have been tasked by the republican POW’s to state how and why this protest has occurred and to clarify the facts of this protest.
A protest is currently underway on E3 Portlaoise due to the suspension of the temporary release (TR) and compassionate release (CR) programmes. It is the belief of the POW’s that this has happened due to IRA actions in the occupied six counties, indeed the Irish Prison Service have indicated this much and one of their spokespersons has even asked the OC of E3 if he ‘Believed in the border’!
The situation at present is as follows: Two republicans prisoners (Vinny Kelly and Justin McCarthy) are currently involved in a no wash/dirty protest, NOT on the blanket as some have suggested. At intervals republican POW’s will join this protest until the whole landing is on protest , at this stage the protest will escalate.
The Irish Prison Service representative and the Governor have asked the Officer Commanding to reconsider the POW’s stance pending talks with the Free State government, the only concession the POW’s have been willing to make at this stage is to delay further men joining the protest for a short period to give them a chance to resolve the issue. It is the understanding of the IRPWA that this window of opportunity is fast closing and we would urge all those involved in the Free State government and the Irish Prison Service to make strenuous efforts to resolve this intolerable situation as soon as possible.

End The Conflict, End British Rule In Ireland

If the conflict in Ireland is to end once and for all, so too must the illegal British claim to sovereignty over the Six Counties. That has been made clear in light of the violent events of recent days. That the so called peace process failed to openly address this central core issue of conflict is the reason for its failure now. Attempts to cocoon the problem in a puppet British Assembly arguing along sectarian lines are doomed to failure. From the outset of this process the British government have moved to defend their illegal sovereign claim to Irelands territory. This was evident when they made it an absolute pre-condition that the entry fee into negotiations was the acceptance of a partitionist outcome. Once republican leaders acquiesced to this British demand the republican project within that process was doomed. As it limped from crisis to crisis its British and unionist credentials began to assert themselves. What also emerged was the clear fact that rather than accept their abject defeat in negotiations with the British, republican leaders dug deeper into the morass whilst making outlandish and unsustainable claims about achieving Irish unity by certain dates to keep supporters on board. It was a classic British trap. This British strategy has now reached its pinnacle with a Provisional Sinn Fein leader standing at Stormont, under the British flag, as a minister of the British crown, calling IRA Volunteers ‘traitors’ for continuing to resist British occupation.

We note the ritual chorus of condemnation emanating from Leinster House. Far from reflecting a unity of purpose it represents a bankruptcy of will from that institution to pursue the objective of a Sovereign Irish Republic. From its inception Leinster House abandoned the Irish people in the Six Counties. It abandoned them further under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement. It evolved a politics which made it a slave to vested interests. It is economically on its knees because of financial and political corruption at the highest level. It has selectively spurned its own referenda results because it lacked the courage to represent those results to the political elite in Europe. It is no position to lecture to anyone on any matter of substance.

From its inception the 32 County Sovereignty Movement has endeavored to place the issue of Irish National Sovereignty at the heart of the political process via peaceful methods. We sought to raise our concerns by pursuing our case at the United Nations only to have that peaceful route disbarred to us when London and Dublin petitioned Washington to have our organization declared illegal in the US. We petitioned all the main parties with detailed submissions but were met with silence. We sought peace. We seek peace, but we recognise clearly that this can only be achieved if true parity is brought to a negotiations process. Britain’s claim to have ‘no selfish, strategic or economic reasons’ to remain in Ireland is laid bare when one sees its use of Irish soil to train and dispatch British soldiers to kill in foreign wars. The British are not neutral in Ireland, no more than they are in Afghanistan or Iraq. To allow them to claim this, which the Good Friday Agreement does, represents a massive abdication of duty and responsibility by all those supposed nationalists who support it. The recent loss of life as a result of military action is yet another tragedy in the continuing conflict in Ireland. What is required to resolve it is an end to British Parliamentary activity in Ireland so that the people of the island can come to their own democratic arrangements as to how we govern ourselves.

On behalf of the National Executive I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all our activists who campaigned so effectively for our goals during 2008. I choose the word effectively deliberately as I believe certain milestones in Irish republicanism were achieved during the past year. At the outset let me address the realities of our struggle by welcoming home the Derry 4 but in equal breath call for the immediate release of Terry McCafferty, Michael Campbell and all incarcerated Irish republicans. If ever a set of circumstances so described the nature of justice under partition it is these which do so with the greatest clarity. Partition is maintained by the establishments on either side of it which makes our struggle a thirty two county affair. A protest in Kerry is no less important than a protest in Belfast and in our efforts to build our organisation this is the message we must bring with us.

Our organisation has grown in 2008. We have reached into new areas and attracted new people who share our strategic vision. 2009 must see the Sovereignty Movement consolidate this growth and give it firm political leadership. The effective activism I speak of was visible in a number of areas;

A mature campaign for a No Vote against Lisbon.
The sustained protests on Prisoner issues.
The establishment of the Irish Republican Forum For Unity.

Our efforts at securing a No Vote in the Lisbon referendum were based on ensuring that the issue of Sovereignty and Partition were at the heart of our strategy. In doing so we made it clear that all issues of national relevance, be they concerned with natural resources or national heritage, can only be addressed in the context of National Sovereignty and that a resolution of one must contain a resolution of all. Sovereignty cannot be sub-divided.
Our comrades in the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association facilitated our activists in holding protests and demonstrations concerning imprisoned Irish Republicans. We point to the successful intervention in the Aidan Hulme case and the release of the Derry 4. But the cases of Terry McCafferty and Michael Campbell loom large and require similar attention to secure similar outcomes. We send solidarity greetings to all imprisoned republicans but we will do so through continued activism on their behalf.

After long and searching debate the Unity Initiative bore fruit with the formal establishment of The Irish Republican Forum For Unity. At its inaugural meeting in Derry City the republican base could finally see the unity idea transformed into political action on an inclusive basis. A series of public meetings have been planned throughout 2009 to bring the Unity Forum to different areas so that the broad republican base can be instrumental in forging its political activity. The 32CSM will remain fully engaged with the Unity Forum and have proposals prepared to put to it for the coming year.
2009 will see us once again confronted with the Lisbon issue. Those who make the repeated charge that republicans should respect the ‘democratic’ wish expressed in the dual referendums on the Good Friday Agreement should have their hypocrisy thrown back at them. A second referendum will have the added issue of its democratic nature and once again the 32CSM will campaign to ensure that this undemocratic premise and that of Partition itself will be seen as one. Our analysis of the re-run Nice Treaty convinced us that only a Yes vote will satisfy the Dublin Government and having anticipated the inevitability of a second poll we had begun our preparations for our campaign soon after the No victory. I take this opportunity to formally launch ‘Countdown To Lisbon II’ as our effort in the forthcoming campaign. It will be a campaign which will focus on our original objections to Lisbon and also on the status of a second referendum as it relates to our National Sovereignty. We will also campaign for a No Vote by highlighting the extraordinary corruption and social bankruptcy of the Twenty Six Counties political and financial classes as it tries to convince the people that a treaty hewn from the same bankruptcy is in our best interests.

2009 will not see the ending of Partition. Neither will 2016. These are the realities which face us and they need to be recognised by all republicans. However, this does not mean that 2009 and 2016 cannot witness political achievements that will help us secure this objective. Acting within our limitations and acting together to reduce those limitations can greatly enhance our prospects to once again place the republican position back onto the national agenda. Wallowing in the past or afraid to grasp nettles is the stuff of cul-de-sac politics. There is no need to reinvent the republican wheel but we do need to reinvent ways and means by which our core message is given the weight of political activity behind it. We view the Unity Forum as one such means and we strongly urge that all republican groups engage with it so that 2009 can become a watershed in our history.

Republicans accuse MI5 of being behind PSNI/RUC threats.

Two members of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement in Belfast have accused the British security services of being behind threats they received from the PSNI/RUC indicating that ‘Criminal Elements’ were going to take some form of action against them.
The men, from North and East Belfast told the 32 County Sovereignty Movement that while the threats were worrying, they believed that they were either emanating from within MI5 or being pushed by them through their agents in the Criminal underworld in order to pressurise Republicans to cease carrying out the work they have being doing within the Republican community on issues such as anti social behaviour, underage drinking, poverty and the drugs scourge.
One of the men, who did not want to be identified stated “ I believe that these are attempts to force us to go home and close the doors and to stop us from our work as Republicans in the community, they will not work. As Republicans we are always under threat from somebody whether that be Loyalists, criminal gangs or indeed the biggest criminals of all, the forces of the British occupation in Ireland which is who we believe are behind these threats”
The 32 County Sovereignty Movement advise all Republicans to be vigilant in light of these threats and the threats last week against a member in North Armagh.

Aidan Hulme Latest

POSITIVE OUTCOME TO AIDAN HULME CAMPAIGN

The Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association (IRPWA)welcome the latest development in the Aidan Hulme campaign whereby the Prison Governor in Portlaoise Gaol has agreed with the prisoners and Aidan that the OC and Adjutant will be allowed access to accompany Aidan when he is visited by a doctor or when visited by the Governor.

Today (15/10/08) such a visit took place and it is confirmed that gangrene is not present in Aidan’s foot rather the symptoms are a result of a severe infection for which Aidan is now being treated.

Staff from the hospital will now visit Aidan to clean the infected areas of his foot and renew dressings to prevent further spread of infection.

An assurance is also given that Aidan will have a consultant assessment before the end of the month and an agreed care plan is being implemented and developed. This will allow for a proper consultant led care management package.

This positive and jointly agreed approach to Aidan’s welfare will ensure early intervention in the event of deterioration and will allow for continuous monitoring of his condition.

The negative effects of the medication will also be closely monitored and with Aidan’s agreement can be reduced depending on his individual needs at any given time.

The IRPWA on behalf of the POW’s would like at this time to thank most sincerely the many people who moved to support Aidan in his time of need and to those who sent greetings.

We would like to extend this thanks to other republican organisations who pledged their support and advice to ensure that Aidan received immediate professional intervention.

Aidan is indeed most grateful for all the support he has received and extends his heartfelt appreciation to everyone involved.
